Tom Downing

Many readers will be sorry to hear that Tom Downing passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 17th at his home in Cornwall.

For many years, Tom Downing was a well known figure in the fretted instrument world, having successfully built up and conducted the London Banjo Club. Under his direction, the Club made many radio and television appearances and gave several successful concerts, at Wigmore Hall and Duthy Hall.

A civil servant, Mr. Downing's great love was the London Banjo Club. He retired last year and, at the farewell concert at the Duthy Hall given by the Club, many were his well-wishers for a happy retirement, but it was not to be and his passing will be moaned by many.
